  • Jabberjaw

My daughter is turning into a blabbermouth.

Words that she's been using a lot lately:

    "cheeches" (peaches)
    kiss
    "key" (kitty)
"jooooooos" (juice) - she says it long and drawn out like that
    "apps" (apple)
    "unjz" (orange)
    "teepoo" (Tigger and Pooh)

She's saying a lot more, I just don't know what the heck it is.  And she'll try so hard to get it out, then look at me like "gosh, you're such a dumb-arse for not hearing what I'm saying, woman."

I totally fail at toddler-speak at the moment.  I'll get better.

  • Hoarders

My husband and I are officially hoarders.  About 2 years ago, we made tacos one night.  We used this new-fangled Ortega chipotle seasoning mix.  It was awesome, I'm talking damn awesome.  So good, we ate our weight in tacos.

So, about 3 weeks after, the grocery stores stopped carrying it.  We have, for the last 2 years, been looking for more Ortega Chipotle taco seasoning.  To no avail.  Sad.  We thought our Chipotle days were over.

Well, we were at the Super Target the other day and my husband comes around the corner carrying 25 packages of Ortega Chipotle seasoning.  "THEY HAVE THEM HERE!" he almost shouted to me in the aisle.  We were jumping up and down like a couple of kids.

The last few times I've been at Target, I've grabbed all their chipotle packets.  And now we have a huge stash.  It's like we're stocking up for a nuclear war.  But, when you find something you love (like chipotle tacos) you will do anything to keep them close to you.

    My precious.

  • Mom Stuff

Things I never thought I'd hear myself say (before I became a mom.)

    1. Stop trying to touch the dog's poop-hole.
    2. No more slamming mom WWF style.
    3. No elephants at the table.
    4. Please don't stand on your dollhouse.
    5. No eating mom's earrings.
    6. No eating coins.
    7. Stop throwing my credit cards around the room.

    The list goes on.

  • Frack!

    Spoilers Within....

Blown away by the last night's episode of Galactica. I'm sad and a little pissed that Gaeta is gone as I've always found him such an amazing actor. Make this scene with him singing in season 3 even more complex:

Alessandro Juliani is a wonderful actor and I hope he can really show what he's made of outside of Galactica. You could read the emotion and inner turmoil all over his face throughout the episode. He respected Adama, and it was a great contrast to see this portrayed w/o words. You had the one guy tell Adama, "I'm sorry, sir, I always respected you . . ." but Gaeta did this all (and more) without the use of dialogue. Genius moments.  Brought me to the verge of tears a few times.

I liked the President's moment at the end. It might have been over the top, but it was very appropriate for the rising action of the story--building and building and geesh, I was just in knots. The way the cylons looked at her, it was like they were finally realizing what it meant to be human.

A side nitpick. What is up with 6 and Baltar? The "original 6" that now has Tigh's baby inside her? Wasn't that Baltar's gal from Caprica? No screen time with them? No more Six in Baltar's head? Where did that go?

Not sure what Tyrol was looking at after he tore out the FTL gear. My best guess is that it's something that will be played out in the final episode when Galactica will be destroyed (and I think we all know that sucker's going down with Adama in it.) I still think he may be the "dying leader" at this point. And the new "Earth" they find, he will never get to see it.

  • Book Burnin'

Not book burning as in censorship here.  I'm reading Martin so fast, I feel like I'm on fire baby.  Haha.

On his 3rd installment, Storm of Swords.  Awesome material.  I sent FadingSuns a copy of the first book and he's almost done.  My friend, C, is well into the first as well.  We're just a trio of Martin nerds and pretty happy to be so.

I'm trying to slow down on the third book/fourth book.  I know Martin isn't finished with the 5th yet, so I may have to stretch it out a bit as not to be forced to wait too long.

Interesting turn with making Jaime one of the perspectives in this (and Sam Tarly.)

As always, my favorites are Arya, Tyrion and Dany.  Love all the characters, but these three I find myself drawn to at the moment.

    Happy reading all.

  • Phelps

Has his mouth to a bong in the pic that's been making its way around the world.

Uhh, so what?  He's going to be demonized for smoking pot, eh?  For all the training and the gold he's won for the US, they should friggin' plant the stuff for him.

I know, I know, KIDS might see him.  Well, unless KIDS are told (like they are on the news) that it's a POT BONG, most won't even know WTF he's doing anyway,  but we can thank the news for all the details.  OMG, someone smokes pot.

  • Lost / Galactica Commentary

    Spoilers Within . . .

    • Lost was great.  Interesting that Whitmore was an Other.
    • Des and Penny sure do make a cute baby.  And his name is Charlie.
    • Loving Richard.  He's still such an enigma, but I'm enjoying his character.  I keep hoping someday they'll do a backstory on him.
    • I think blondie on the island is either the British lady that Ben was talking to or Penny's mum.  Not sure, though.
    • Locke is awesome as always.  Give me Ben, Give me Locke and I'm a happy camper.
    • Red-headed chick is going to pass on soon, I fear.  She was apparently born on the island.  Makes me wonder if that has something to do with it.  And, if they don't get things "fixed" soon with the unstuck in time deal, will Claire's boy, Aaron, also suffer the same fate if he returns?
    • Sawyer and Juliette seem to be getting awfully chummy.  Hmmmmmm.

    Galactica
    (Again, spoilers within)

    • Geesh, talk about a tense episode last night, and it ended on a "to be continued."  GRAR!
    • I will NOT be happy if Tigh dies.  The preview for next episode mentions that he was killed trying to escape.  This is not cool.  Tigh is my man.  Though if they do off him, I know a Six model who is going to flip her lid.
    • The President is COMING FOR THEM ALL.  Yesssss....  I was growing tired of her mopey, poor-me attitude.
    • Oh Gaeta.  He does know better.  The scene where Baltar was talking to him on the phone was just heart-wrenching.  Funny that I first thought Baltar was going to turn them in (in exchange for his own life.)
    • Racetrack!  Not you, honey.  I liked you.
    • I can't help but feel bad for Sam.  His wife has little to do with him and she's always trying to make out with Lee.  Sad sad.  He deserves better.  I smell a sacrifice on his part coming soon and a sad one at that.
    • Zerrick has to know better.  I can't believe his really this one-dimensional.
    • My thoughts on how this might end?  Cavil shows up with the rest of the cylon fleet and turns it into a big, giant cluster-frack.  Galactica and renegade cylons will have to band together to fend them off.

Enjoyed the episode.  HATE being left on a cliffhanger like that.  The Old man still has some oomph in him after all.  That's a good thing.

  • Workshop

It was my first day at the women's county detention center.  I help facilitate creative writing workshops for those want to participate.

A pretty awesome experience.  These ladies were a lively bunch and eager to explore their inner muse.

Some sad stories already, but some really kick-ass poetry.  Too bad I can't write poetry for crap, except for some bad L33tspeak haiku.

I have two short pieces to write up and offer feedback for next time.

I'll definitely post some stuff once it gets published.

  • First Day School Impressions

First day of class is always interesting.  You go over the syllabus.  You have someone who asks a million questions because they don't know how to figure out what an "annotated bibliography" is (look it up, durhh!  You're in grad school!)

You go around the room and say, "I'm Bob and I'm an English teaching student.  Dracula is the coolest book ever written."

So, the teacher gets to this guy (who came an hour late,) and asks him why he's taking the class.

"It was on Monday.  I needed another Monday class."

Sure must make the professor feel grand.  Thanks dude!  Thanks for telling me how much this material means absolutely nothing to you.  The class is an elective.

So far, so good.  Next class is workshop.  I get out at 10:00pm.  I'm such a wuss.  Used to going to bed at that time.

    That is all...

  • 24

My last 24 hours of freedom.  I have class for the first time tomorrow.  Hours are weird.

4:00 to 6:50 for the first
7:00 to 9:50 for the last

Wednesdays from 5:30 until 8:30 for my internship (teaching creative writing at the women's correctional facility.)  I'm so friggin' stoked about that.  Lots of rules, though.

    No revealing clothing
    Minimal jewelry
No asking them about their case (I could get subpoenaed if they "confide" in me.)
Most are in for drug-related issues
Most have been through abuse: sexual, physical, etc.
Some are there for 1-2 years
Some are only there until their trials (a week or so)

    I NEED TO WRITE.
MY cup runneth dry for story ideas right now.

Tonight?  Trash VH1 television.  No better way to say goodbye to my free-time.
